Hacker, Security Expert, Elections Harri Hursti is a technologist, life-long hacker and a world-renown security professional whose expertise lies in observing, witnessing, and preventing malicious activities in network environments. His expertise is paramount to ensuring the resilience and security of AI infrastructures. Hursti’s career started in the mid-1980s developing secure communication protocols and technologies to protect information and security systems at the national security level. He was the co-founder of the first pan-European internet service provider EUNet. Since 2005, he has been briefing and advising law and policy makers and national and local governments on cybersecurity and critical infrastructure in the United States, ASEA and elsewhere. Hursti is advising multiple companies in security technologies, identity management, cryptography, and applications of digital biotech. He’s also advising and conducting security trainings and assessments of critical infrastructure with multiple countries around the world. Hursti is a co-founder and co-organizer of DEF CON Voting Village. DEF CON is one of the world's largest and most notable global security research and hacker community conventions, and held annually in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S. The HBO documentary film Hacking Democracy (2006) featured Hursti’s successful proof-of-concept mock election hack (Hursti Hack) that altered reported results in an election machine used in the U.S. elections. His second HBO documentary Kill Chain: The Cyber War on America's Elections (2020) provided a follow-up analysis on election security. Both documentaries earned Emmy nominations.
