So … what does a byline like that mean to you? It means you can ask me almost anything about starting, building, pitching and financing a business – all the way to leading and managing one every day. I’ve even bought, merged, and sold a few along the way too. BUT: What most call me about is their career — how do they take the next step … how do they deal with a situation they are facing … or how do they deal with a crossroads in their business … how do they deal with this boss, employee, board director, board issue … how do they fund the next step in their business ... Probably most important for you though … is that I continue to work at this — all-day, every day. Ok then – so how did I get to do all this in the first place … besides just being around for so long … and being very lucky? First, there was learning at IBM … then building tech companies as CEO … and then, teaching at Columbia University. I’ve been CEO, Board Director, and Board Chair for more than ten businesses … (actually more like 14, and counting). Today – my work is in three areas: First – board work … for several tech companies … and advising investment firms. Second – teaching … at Columbia University … and guest lecturing for other universities globally. And third – working outside educational institutions – with tech CEOs and their businesses … aiding the Mayo Clinic in their use of AI … and soon … launching a new startup – as examples. I have several published books – with three in the works. My academic background includes – undergraduate work in Economics at Wake Forest University … an MBA from the University of South Carolina … and doctoral studies at Columbia. Today though – there are times when you could find me … flying in the desert … or CrossFit training with my son & friends on the North Shore of Massachusetts … or working with military and intelligence special operations parachute training – all combining some of my lifelong experiences … and passions.
