I began my 35-year career in the entertainment industry with an internship at New Line Cinema when I was 19. Over the next 11 years, I gained a comprehensive understanding of the filmmaking process. From writing, development, acquisitions, directing, marketing, and distribution, I learned to thrive in an ever-evolving business by growing and adapting with it. I created the "Final Destination" film franchise, which has grossed over $925 million worldwide. I also made a bit of history as the first openly gay person of color to create a studio-released horror franchise. But beyond the numbers, what’s meant the most to me is hearing from people who’ve found inspiration in my story. I often say, "If this kid from rural Appalachia could forge his own path to success, so can you." With over 70 film and TV credits spanning writing, producing, acting, and speaking as an expert on screenwriting and horror, I bring a holistic perspective to the industry. I understand how difficult it can be to maintain creative integrity, when it clashes with the corporate reality of show business. Just as important, I’ve learned that one's mental health and well-being are essential, not just for a successful career, but for a fulfilling life. I’ve dedicated myself to helping others understand that their voice matters, and that healing and hope are within reach. Growing up poor in a small Appalachian town, overcoming addiction and navigating life as a sober, openly gay person of color has given me firsthand insight into the struggles that can make us feel isolated, invisible, or broken. My goal is to create a safe space where people, with vastly different viewpoints, can have an honest dialogue, without judgement, about their struggles...and gain tools to be empowered to deal with life in a way that is solution-based. Where many seek to ignore, or silence, those who think differently than them, I believe it’s crucial to listen to everyone with empathy and compassion. Only through true open dialogue can we grow as individuals and unite as a society. I believe in the transformative power of the arts to entertain…and to heal. Whether I’m sharing creative and industry insights or offering personal guidance, my goal is simple: to empower and uplift people from all walks of life. No matter your background or beliefs, I know that through honest, inclusive conversations, we can heal ourselves, unlock our creative potential, help change hearts and minds, and create a world where every voice is valued and heard.
